It is always reassuring to discover any news that wine is beneficial for your health and the most recent is a report in the Daily Mail (14 Jan 2013) that a glass of red wine with your steak can reduce your cholesterol:
For those who dither over whether to have that glass of wine with dinner, it’s good news.
Scientists have discovered that washing down red meat with a glass of red can actually prevent the build-up of cholesterol in the body.
And they say it may be the reason why red wine has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease.
The report emanates from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
More cautious types might argue that you should avoid red meat too, although other research identified the “French Paradox”, whereby the French have a relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease, despite a diet rich in saturated fats -and here it is thought that high levels of Reservatrol found in the rich red wines of Cahors and Madiran in Southwest France may also prevent the build-up of cholesterol – I’d like to think so!
Michel Montignac pioneered a diet on these princples – montignac method – Michel Montignac, created a “revolutionary” diet that allowed foods such as foie gras, chocolate, cheese and champagne!
