The range is still handpicked, but it has grown quite a bit and now boasts an enviable selection of local and international craft beers and boutique spirits, as well as over three hundred wines, including a number of natural, organic and biodynamic bottles. Borough Wines also pioneered the environment (and wallet!) friendly wine and beer refill system.

From Susy Atkins in the Daily Telegraph (29 June 2015):

Muriel Chatel, Bordeaux-born, with a grandfather who made wine for the French in Algeria, is now one of the great characters of the UK wine scene. The founder and co-owner of hip Borough Wines opened her seventh London branch in Twickenham earlier this month; more stores are planned, including a first move further afield to Hastings, later this year.

Chatel started off selling just 10 organic wines in a blossoming Borough Market in 2002. “That was a fantastic time!” she remembers. “London in the first stages of a food revolution.” Along the way she, naturally, added more lines (she now stocks more than 360 wines), as well as beers and cider (totalling 100) and spirits (70). And although she still champions many organic wines, not everything is these days. read more
