Champagne Devaux Competition
Having just read about Champagne Devaux on Spittoon - and what a marvellous wine for food the Cuvee D is - the linked retailer (Surf4Wine) is running a competition to win a bottle; one of six actually.
Popping up in my RSS reader was details of a competition in conjunction with an Oxford paper. So technically, I guess, only those within the readership area should enter (plus those who visited Oxford last weekend!).
“For your chance to win one of these exciting prizes, simply write the answer to the question below on a postcard and send it, together with your name, address and a daytime telephone number to:
Champagne Devaux / Andrew Chapman Fine Wines Competition,
Oxfordshire Limited Edition,
Osney Mead,
Oxford OX2 OEJto arrive no later than Friday, September 21,2007.
The question is : What is the name of the area in the south of Champagne where Champagne Devaux can be found? And if you want a hint…”

Ordering wine as a birthday gift? Well unless you want it two weeks late do not order through Surf4wine, use a competitor instead. Surf4wine, run by Andrew Chapman, failed miserably on four different occasions to deliver the wine that I had ordered and paid for. Only after repeated phone calls to Surf4Wine and eventually to Andrew himself (who was obstructive and sarcastic on each occasion) did Andrew even accept that the deliveries had not been made. Despite then paying an extra charge to have my wine delivered on a weekend, still nothing arrived at my home (which is in south london so can hardly be described as difficult to locate). Despite Andrew’s promises to the contrary I am still waiting for this extra charge to be refunded. Ordering wine through surf4wine was a huge mistake which led to wasted time, huge frustration, unnecessary expense, broken promises and a missed birthday - do not use surf4wine, go with one of their competitors who are more likely to get your order delivered and less likely to waste your time and money.
It is always disheartening to learn of such bad experiences (I am sure there are many happy customers at S4W); often it is not the fault of the retailer directly more of the courier company - I know many independents suffer the same problem. While not defending S4W refunds can take a few days to appear on statements too…
One can only describe one’s own experiences - my experience of surf4wine was lousy service and hopeless excuses. It is thirteen days since since I was promised a refund yet still I wait, I wonder what the excuse is going to be this time? Surely not that tired line about couriers again…
